This policy explains what personal information I collect through tomjahed.ca, why I collect it, who helps me handle it, and the choices you have. I have written it in plain language. If anything is unclear, contact me using the details at the end.
Who I am
This website is operated by Tom Jahed, REALTOR®, licensed with Vanak Realty, 112-828 Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver, BC V7P 3R9. Phone: 778-903-7306. Email: tomjahed@gmail.com. In this policy, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Tom Jahed, and “you” means anyone who visits this site or contacts me through it.
I handle personal information in line with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
What I collect
Information you give me. When you fill in a form on this site (for example to ask a question, request a home evaluation, book a call or get listing alerts), I collect what you enter. That is usually your name, email address and phone number, and may include a property address, what you are looking to buy or sell, your timeline, and any message you write. If you email, call or text me, I receive whatever you send.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, cookies and similar technologies collect information about your device and how you use the site, such as pages viewed, time on site, the page that referred you, browser and device type, approximate location based on your IP address, and your IP address itself.
How I use it
I use your personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and follow up with you;
- provide real estate services you ask for, such as a home evaluation, property searches, listing alerts, showings and advice on buying or selling;
- keep a record of our communications;
- send you market updates or information you have asked for, which you can stop at any time;
- understand how the site is used so I can improve it; and
- meet my legal and regulatory obligations as a licensed real estate professional in BC.
I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
Service providers I use
I use a small number of outside companies to run this site and my business. They handle personal information on my behalf, and only for the purposes described here.
- GoHighLevel (LeadConnector). The contact forms and the chat window on this site are run by GoHighLevel, also known as LeadConnector. When you submit a form or send a chat message, your details are sent to and stored in that system, which I use to manage enquiries and to send emails and text messages.
- Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Site Kit. I use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager and Google Site Kit, to measure how visitors use the site. Google sets cookies to do this. You can read how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on.
- MLS® listing search (IDX), by Persisca. The property search and listing pages are provided by Persisca, an IDX provider, using MLS® data. If you search, save listings or register on those pages, Persisca may collect and process that information, and its own privacy policy also applies.
- Google Ads. I use Google Ads conversion tracking, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to measure whether my ads lead to enquiries. Google may also use this to show my ads to people who have visited this site. Google sets cookies to do this. You can control how Google personalizes ads at myadcenter.google.com.
- Google reCAPTCHA. Some forms use Google reCAPTCHA to block spam. It collects information about your device and how you use the page, under Google’s privacy policy and terms.
- Elfsight reviews widget. The reviews shown on this site are displayed through a widget from Elfsight, which loads them from Google. Elfsight may receive your IP address and browser information when the widget loads.
- Website hosting and email. The site is hosted by a web hosting provider, and I use Google for email.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses cookies that are needed for it to work, and analytics cookies from Google to measure use of the site. Third-party tools on the site, such as the forms and the listing search, may also set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, parts of the site, such as forms or saved searches, may not work properly.
Where your information is stored
Some of my service providers store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, and the authorities there may be able to access it under those laws.
When I share information
I share your personal information only:
- with the service providers described above, so they can do their work for me;
- with my brokerage, Vanak Realty, as required for my work as a licensee;
- with others involved in a transaction, such as another agent, a lawyer or notary, a lender or mortgage broker, or an inspector, when that is needed to provide the service you asked for and you have agreed to it; and
- when the law requires it, for example to answer a valid legal demand or to meet the requirements of my regulator.
How long I keep it
I keep personal information only as long as I need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law and my professional obligations require me to keep records. After that, I delete it or make it anonymous.
How I protect it
I use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including password-protected accounts and reputable service providers. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices: withdrawing consent and unsubscribing
You can withdraw your consent to my use of your personal information at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, by contacting me. I will tell you if withdrawing consent means I can no longer provide a particular service.
To stop receiving emails from me, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. To stop text messages, reply STOP. You can also simply email or call me and I will remove you.
Your right to see and correct your information
Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act, you have the right to ask for access to the personal information I hold about you, how it has been used, and who it has been disclosed to. You also have the right to ask me to correct it if it is wrong. Send your request in writing to the email or address below. I will respond within the time PIPA allows. In some limited cases the Act allows or requires me to refuse access; if so, I will tell you why.
If you are not satisfied with how I have handled your request or your information, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
